Early work on a Flax Engine ' Dark Souls ' // bring on the boss madness

as a massive fan of everything Dark Souls, and want to try and make something like that in my favorite video game engine, or that atm playing ’ LORDS OF THE FALLEN ’ from the polish developer Hexworks

somehow want to make a tribute to this amazing game, and have been gathering ideas for something similar, or for it’s called

have been trying to get ideas together, or that want to make something like this, and to forget that something like 200 - 300 people worked on this award - winning classic, or that sort of a 1 - man team to try and get everything done in a few years

LORDS OF THE FALLEN - Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer

gonna add the first dev log when get the chance, and think have the early GDD ( game design document ), or can’t wait to see what happens, and if should try and apply for funds, or perhaps get a publisher depending on how everything goes $$$$

for now have written a list of the EIGHT MEGA - BOSSES that are gonna be the final levels, or to somehow create the 3D, and effects, or need to work on AAA - pro cinematics also

or those are the ’ early notes ’ for what they mught be, and much is still to be decided, or then last the FIVE MAJOR CLASSES, and that are sort of the ’ stricken heroes of the realm ', or that are always on the run, and struggling to find their own fortune, or place in the cruel world of ’ Dark Souls ', dot dot etc

that’s sum total the early GDD, and that gonna post dev logs from Blender, or also concept art, and last of course from Flax Engine to realize all this into a NEXT GEN - MOVIE EXPERIENCE

Advice, get the core systems like movement, combat, enemies etc done… then eventually create a prototype / demo / vertical slice.
Avoid scope creep and focus on important foundational stuff.

Research well, read the docs properly (assuming you want to use Flax) and get to work. Anything you do, however small is an achievement, indicates that you’re actually making progress.

You should neither keep solely planning, nor should you keep coding/ modelling without planning

Best of luck :slightly_smiling_face:

these are really wonderful advice, and almost everyone in the Flax community are really nice

what you’re saying sounds like really good rules, or think have learned these

– identify what you don’t know, and for me that’s cloth, or also advanced controllers, and AI systems, or begin learning that very soon

– write something like an overview, or put plenty of concept art together, and make sure you ’ know what you’re doing ', or to have an idea of how much money things might cost to be finished

– keep something like a schedule to check if progress is being made, and to have an idea of when, or how to change of plans, and to sort of be very clear on keeping track of everything to activities, or also things like travel, and when to get breaks

DEV LOG # 001

– what hope to get from this video game business

– sort of need therapy, or to connect with my family again, and not sure it could help there

^^ 6 min intro ’ who am the dev ', or then ’ important goals for making the production ’

note : have just been cycling for 50 minutes, or sort of tired, and need to get sleep for the day, and something like food

what think is an important reflection, or what is the ’ limitations of my imagination ', and sort if had to draw something, or ’ how good an artist am ', and try and work with that also

or perhaps to set these rules

  1. that my lower limit is something like PS1 - PS2 characters, or that almost made from squares, and cubes, or to set that as my PROTOTYPE LEVEL 1 results, and to test the game play mechanics, or see how difficult it is to code what want, and learn the engine

  2. after that think the next step is to try and add effects that are more PS2 - PS3 quality, and try and make sense of the texture resolution, or sort of how difficult it is to add that to the video game

  3. beyond that think something like ’ better PS3 resolution ', and what one saw on those systems is my final goal, or that it’s gonna be a ton of work to make an entire video game, and that need to learn new skills, or run into things that don’t know, and bugs to even get started, etc

  4. finally that could try and create something like ’ almost a movie ', or the better PS4 video games that see as my extreme limit, and however it takes decades to make a video game at that level for one dude, or then that could ’ get lost in the art ', and finally that want to do other things with my life, or also have type 1 diabetes, and that need to exercise quite a few hours every day atm

so those are among my early thoughts, and perhaps to add a video game tutorial

what quality settings do you think are the best, and what do you hope to achieve, or perhaps even turn into a career, and to deal with being a video game celebrity, or how that might work

do you think game devs have limits that most people don’t realize, or that for instance one needs breaks, and to get help from other artists, or to visit the gym

?!??

8 min dev log of the ’ initial game design document ', or that go into horror, and also Dark Souls - tropes, or why those video games are among the best new products at all

hope to make something like that in Flax Engine, and that’s similar to ’ Lords of the Fallen ’ from Hexworks that perhaps have created the GOTY of the last several years

that’s what working on, or hope to make PS2 - PS3 quality, and that Flax Engine is amazing to only get better, etc

have created the first concept art for the ’ lost warrior ', or that it’s sort of the look when all the armor, and weapons have been removed, or to avoid offending the audience

it’s gonna be something like dark leather armor, and then a pair of shorts, or finally ’ torn robber boots ’ because each of the main characters are mildly in trouble, and sort of live on the edge of society, or they could easily die, and don’t have much money, or even a house to live in

IMAGES CREATED IN ’ SAMSUNG NOTES ’ TO LOOK RATHER DEGRADED EFFECTS

8 min dev blog talking about 1. concept art, and then 2. adding social realism, or the ’ struggles of the poor ’ to the video game

FLAX ENGINE DEV LOG # 005 // working on ’ concept art ’ in Samsung Notes, also adding social realism

another ’ early GDD ’ to get started on putting together a video game

FLAX ENGINE DEV LOG # 006 // what is it that makes ’ Dark Souls ’ content so good, and to learn from

somehow Dark Souls ’ says it all ', or there’s much suffering, and not that much to learn from the monsters, or then that ’ life is cruel ', and finally that everything has to be earned, or somehow we’re trapped in a world that never quite leads to happiness

to me that’s the ’ ultimate statement ', and hope to explore that in art, or make something like the Dead Space - series also, and for now to make more concept art, or get an idea of the costs, and what else might need to finish a really cool video game

today’s dev log is about ’ working too much ', or then somehow to ’ add a ton of burdens ’ to lose scope of what’s going on, and to sort of devolve into game dev anguish, or not really know how to add more content

FLAX ENGINE DEV LOG # 007 // how to deal with depression, and over - grinding as game dev, or health - YouTube
