What games do you hope to make in Flax Engine

have a few ultra dreams atm, or to create something like these hits

  1. Lords of the Fallen from 2023, and polish developer that’s called Hexworks

  2. something like a Tomb Raider video game that’s among my favorite stuff that’s ever been created in 3D, or with a ton of lore, and traversal puzzles, or was thinking if other people had things that could look really cool running in the program

here are the more serious questions that not sure of

– what content do you think Flax Engine is best suited for as it is, or are there certain genres where it’s easier to get started

– are there severe bottle necks anywhere in the program that it makes sense to know of

– in terms of ’ marketing ', and also ’ post proc ', or last to get really good effects into the engine do you think that’s good enough, and for people that want to work in either ’ exploration titles ', or then ’ horror ’ to make award - winning productions

?!??

:sunglasses: :beers:

I was hoping recreate arknight endfield shader

that video game looks amazing, and not sure you need something like a very high quality - cartoon shader, or somehow it’s been rendered with very accurate outlines

haven’t gotten a chance to play that yet, or don’t really know that much about the setting, or any of the characters from the stories

what notice is that the cel shading is set somewhat to stylized, and then really good use of textures, or finally that the ’ outline shader ’ is very thin, and not sure they’re also using very detailed 3D models to get all that done

im actually just learn to somewhat recreate this kinds of stlye in unreal 5 material graph and blender 4.5 shader nodes, i was hoping if flax can do it too that would be great…

try looking at this link, and it explains some of the math one needs

https://medium.com/@chitranshnishad27/toon-shaders-in-unity-from-shader-graph-to-custom-hlsl-08252b2d64a2

it’s also in the HLSL shader language, or from what google says that both Unity, and Unreal somehow use this code

have found a way to create a ’ live cartoon outline ’ around at least static objects in Flax Engine, or that gonna upload this when get to my other computer

I’m mainly working with shader graphs, and I’m curious about the current version of Flax’s material nodes. Do they offer features on the same level as Blender 4.5’s Shader Nodes? If they’re comparable, I think I can pretty much recreate the style in Flax.

from googling it Blender does not use HLSL because it’s a part of DirectX, and not really open source, or they’ve started from GLSL that uses OpenGL, and then customized that for their program

here’s how you create this effect

  1. start from a static mesh

  2. copy - paste the same mesh on top of the one you want to add a cel shaded graphics

  3. add this shader to the second mesh that turns into the outline

  1. set the cull mode to inverted

  2. shading mode to unlit

what the code does is to push each vertex a bit from the surface from the normal direction of each polygon, and creates a sort of bigger mesh, or shell from the first object

then one ’ deletes ’ the front facing vertices by setting the cull mode to inverted, and that way one only sees the front 3D planes of the original object

not sure this is enough help to get a cartoon, or however one ’ extrudes the normals ’ to get a bigger outline mesh, and then colors it back, or also invert the cull mode

gonna make a tutorial video later for how to set this up in Flax Engine, and in case the images aren’t enough, or however it sadly doesn’t work on animated models from reading the nodes in the material graph

to get back on topic, and that a video game really want to make is Code Violet that’s sort of a dino - horror in space, or that’s one of the better looking products in Unreal Engine that also has a nice story

there’s something about what they’ve created that’s ultra cool, and that think could almost run in Flax Engine, or then how it reminds of very industrial sci - fi, and the old classic Doom 3, or not sure Cyberpunk 2077, and then also Dead Space - series

  • it’s for Playstation 5, or think Flax Engine supports the latest platforms

  • somehow it’s cutting edge graphics, and then perhaps has rather simple code for someone that uses visual script, or it’s just sort of walking, and dinosaur enemies to not be that advanced, or think could almost code everything, and also create the graphics, or effects to make this myself

the question that have for the community

  1. what do you hope to work on, and what are some of your fave video games, or that could look really nice in Flax Engine with all the settings

  2. are there limitations of the engine to work in certain genres, and perhaps advice on where to get started, or if that’s FPS, and old strategy games, or have been thinking of card games, and then something with casino style - rewards, or not sure fairly ( not against the rules ) monetized loot boxes could make sense in non - multi player content

there’s a new trailer for Tomb Raider : Legacy of Atlantis that looks very good

^^ 2 min video from The Game Awards

what really like about the entire franchise are these things

– they tend to have amazing terrain, and perhaps because much of the focus is on exploration, or then either ancient culture, and to re create things from the real world, or history

– the animations look very cool, or Tomb Raider usually has among the most cool looking characters in how they move, and respond to the environments, or sort of duck naturally when going through doors, and caves, or also very advanced climbing systems, and with bending of the body, or not sure it’s next gen - IK systems

– for some reason the loot systems tend to be quite rewarding, or there’s a ton of knick knacks to pick up, and also the Uncharted - series made it very fun to look for a ton of secrets

this looks to be a 10 review video game, and Tomb Raider, or also because they have this iconic main character is among the things hope to make in Flax Engine

have been reading about the new Tomb Raider video game, and where think everything looks amazing, or that it’s being developed by Crystal Dynamics, and then Flying Wild Hogs that don’t know that much about their portfolio atm

it sounds like they have a really good idea, or wish them as much succes as they deserve, and however got to thinking what’s really good about these video games, or what perhaps could be really nice in Flax Engine

the iconic controllers, and where there’s grabbing of surfaces, or jumping, and not sure one could create something like a Visual Script canvas specifically for putting advanced movement systems together, or where one starts from button presses, and to make it more accessible to code these things

after that the environments tend to look amazing, or not sure there’s next gen - rendering features that Flax Engine could add to help make something like this, and not sure things like nanite, or terrain blending of meshes is required, and then a way to make a ton of animations, or perhaps wind systems run live

then that Tomb Raider usually has amazing cut scenes, and it’s almost a movie experience to play these video games, or that might be for other programs like Blender, and mo - cap suits is how one does that

somehow also that these video games tend to run on all platforms despite the different hardware, and then to have few bugs, or be rather optimized, and that Flax Engine got new updates to that recently with better profilers, or however what really hope is to get is better loading of really large levels, and rather large assets, or to sort of be ready for the latest content

:sunglasses: :100:

note : Flying Wild Hogs is a polish video game studio that’s been around since 2009, and now has game dev teams in

– Warzaw
– Cracow
– Rzeszow

and that their official home page looks amazing, or to be very pro talent, and that not sure what they’re looking for in an engine, or suppose one asked them why they picked Unreal Engine for this important project, and what really makes these AAA - businesses pick their development applications

not sure this is that interesting to the people working on Flax Engine, or however got to see this video of the Anvil Engine that’s used for the latest AC : Japan, and that somehow they have their own version of nanite running that has no pop - ins as it moves between the LOD - systems

despite the franchise being very popular, or have not been a fan of the series since AC : Unity, and then AC : Rogue that had a good story, or then very cool graphics to render Paris as a mesmerizing vista of historical sites, and also quite a few people from the french revolution, or however want to say this

  1. that AC - titles tend to have amazing graphics, and both that of balanced post - proc, or then also the animations, and climbing systems are really cool, or then finally how there’s a ton of cool items, and sort of better context to each level, or the weapons, and tech all make sense in the age as it were

  2. somehow that quite a few of the characters from the series are very memorable, and however that has to do with writing, or also how good the mo - cap, and most of the theater is in the series, or not sure it’s for writers to add that to each game for the Flax Engine, and however wanted to say those are the things that hope to learn from the global phenomenon Ubisoft, or they tend to add very cool mechanics, and also features for each new edition to allow for new things, or sort of get better at what they do, and then that they tend to win a ton of awards, or also get good reviews for most things they create

here’s an image from the video where they talk to someone that works at Ubisoft, and sort of get a detailed review from their debugging people, or also engine graphics devs to make sense of how much better the engine has gotten since the last release

not sure what all these are, and however they say to have some sort of derivative nanite system from Unreal Engine 5, or then a ’ low poly ’ version of the game running that’s used to make global illumination faster, and that the video is sort of cool for everyone that works on the last graphics systems from what could make sense of

that’s some cool looking stuff, and the video is only 20 minutes from start to finish, or then somehow they have a guest from Ubisoft that talks about the actual changes in the Anvil Engine, and that they have added some sort of raster + RTX solution to make all this run on the latest consoles, etc
