Hey Flaxers,
I’ve been playing around with Flax and I’m super stoked about its potential. I’m curious though—how realistic can we push this engine? Like, is it even possible to get those cinematic, movie-quality shots that remind you of Avatar-level photorealism? Also, can Flax double as a solid animation and rendering tool for creating such visuals?
Regarding anamorphic lens effects, such as the characteristic horizontal lens flares and unique bokeh, does Flax natively support these, or would implementing them require custom shaders or post-processing techniques?
Would love to hear about your experiences and any insights you can share on pushing Flax to its cinematic limits. Thanks!
I think that depends entirely on the skill-level of the artist, the shader system is pretty powerful in the right hands. However, the engine is geared towards performance rather than movie quality rendering. It lacks Path Tracing for example, and only has limited Ray Tracing, which I’d consider quite important for the quality level you are talking about here. Also, the animation system is quite bare bones, so any complex animations would need to be done in other software and then imported.
