Trying to make indie game jam titles in Flax Engine

DEV LOG # 001 : ON MAKING INDIE GAMES FOR POPULAR JAMS ATM

have realized a few things while here

– that the engine is very difficult to learn despite being very cool, or that it’s almost college - stuff to even make simple things work, and then also level design, or most audio is actually very difficult to make at a high level

– somehow also that need to forget about making 40 - 50 hour AAA content as just one dev, and have decided to focus on smaller indie experiences that perhaps are 1 - 2 hours, or that are sort of ’ very retro ’ because that makes more sense to me, and also to help the community of people that like those effects

– despite it all that perhaps not the best at being famous, or to sort of sell a ton of stuff where struggle rather badly to make sense of the more profitable industry, and that there’s a ton of ’ folly ', or also ’ deranged marketing ’ involved in making electronic theater products, or that want to take it sort of easy, and more focus on making friends in the dev world, or then perhaps to work on classic art besides video games that sort of could be published in a museum

– last that my life hasn’t been that good, or that need to focus on therapy to more have fun, and not really take on more work than could deal with at least for now, or to try and make video games that reflect that, and perhaps talk about mental health, or the things that matter in life atm

then have a few ideas for my first jam video game that might be this character that found while scrolling on Facebook, and that looks a bit like a new ’ Doom guy ', or then perhaps a really cool explorer, and not sure someone that could work with explosives, or perhaps fly really cool air planes, and take over tanks if that was necessary, or to try and make something iconic over this design

want to create something like

– Diablo - series perhaps to be top down isometric RPG

– then a classic FPS that lasts a few hours

– perhaps some sort of ’ drinking game ’ where one has to get drunk with the spec ops marines, or that involves playing card - mechanics, and things like party fun for the tougher force recon soldiers around the world

note : the new character also reminds of polish GROM that are among the best special forces in the world, or that find very inspiring to even make video games about, and that to make something like Crysis - series, or also the old Hexen - video games could very ultra awesome in the Flax Engine

DEV LOG # 002 : BUILDING THE BASIC LORE, AND REFERENCES FOR THE LEVEL STRUCTURE

first of all have written a bit of ’ cool insights ’ to even get started, or sort of the opposite of the ’ four cardinal virtues ’ for spec ops - teams

or these are the four ’ thou shalt not ’ of the hero at the center of the spectacle, and where he’ll have to prove himself against quite a few villains, or if he could stand his ground even when it’s difficult, and then to master both his environment, or sort of the grunt enemies around himself, and then also himself to be of the better champions, etc

this serves these purposes

– that it’s not that easy to decide on textures for the levels, or also most of the enemies unless one has a ’ theme to get started ', and that too much of a noob to just make great art without something to get started

– to sort of have a purpose at all for making better art, and so there’s something to talk about, or for the audience to keep track of where try to work as a ’ classic story - teller ’ where the goal is to somewhat enlighten the public

– last that not sure what effects make sense, or sort of how the boss fights should be put together, and however this gives me a few ideas of their powers to also guess how they might mess with the main character, or sort of ’ push his buttons ', and go after his weaknesses

for now this is the quality that hope to make also

  1. doing this more for the sake of therapy, or that not gonna push myself beyond what could make sense of, and however video games are actually quite important, or sort of hope to win a few prizes

  2. it’s not that easy to make a difference in the modern world, and to sort of reach people where think ’ really cool art ’ somehow is the way to do that, or that it’s important to think of how one presents things to other people, and sort of ’ be on their side ’ to make sure they understand what one is talking about, or that electronic entertainment somehow is great for establishing lectures

note : this is how build entire video games, and that sadly work the way of an adult autist where it’s perhaps a bit ’ harsh ', or then focused on brutal reality where that’s sort of what could keep up with, and then that it’s therapy for years of PTSD, or then breakdowns from several wrong medications, and where need to ’ beat something up ', or then run around in sort of medieval torture levels to make sense of what has happened to me in real life also

DEV LOG # 003 : HOW TO MAKE AN ICONIC MAIN CHARACTER FOR MOST VIDEO GAMES

for sure it’s not easy to come up with the ’ new best trope ', and sort of what everyone should be talking about, or then also throwing money at to be something like cheap cultural products, and however have gotten an early good start from scrolling Facebook where have found these early ideas to be coolness, etc

perhaps not everyone in the modern world knows ’ Marcus Aurelius ’ that was a sort of brilliant roman emperor, and that wrote a book called ’ The Meditations ’ that’s a rather blessed series of quotes, or that might be called scripture for ’ most statesmen ', and then very important politicians where it’s also somehow very important to warrior culture, or where on the one side the main character is sort of inspired by this author from way ago, and then to derive much of his work as a soldier from the writings, or one could say he’s a ’ young Alexander the Great ’ to somehow be inspired by the noble teachings of this pagan king as it were

after that found this quote from random Facebook posts where want to create a ’ better conflict ’ inside the protagonist of the video game, or that his ’ opposite side ’ is perhaps Shakespeare, and then that this quote is sort of his ’ GROM force recon motto ', or what he ultimately lives for, and sees as his way to being the best of the best, or to bring home a ton of medals

last is then this quote where he’s a bit of a mercenary to how he solves problems, or to somehow be caught between the 1. service of Marcus Aurelius, and then 2. how Shakespeare thought, or somehow viewed the world, and then last 3. the sort of ’ wealth defines all ’ quote where that might be his flaw, or among his weaknesses, and that yet it keeps him moving forward, or to sort of maintain his balance, and find meaning in the sometimes terrible deeds of warfighters that have to embark on questionable operations also

somehow that’s the main character, or my recipe for an ’ elite hyper spec ops ', and then to give the character depth, or also to have quite a few things to live for, and ultimately something like the grit, or also devotion to take on the monsters in the final video game as of adding to the lore
